Defense & Veterans

The Second District is home to some of the best and brightest in our Armed Forces.  From Fort Leavenworth, host to the Army Command and General Staff College and Army University, the 190th Coyotes out at Forbes Field, and nearly 12,000 National Guard and Reserve members, Eastern Kansas is fortunate to have such a strong military presence. It is wonderful to see the support our local communities provide our installations and the coordination practiced between communities and installations every day is extraordinary.

Each and every day our military personnel dedicate their lives to securing our freedoms. The sacrifices made are not just by our service men and women but also their families. Kansas is home to more than 33,000 children with at least one parent serving in the military. I will continue to do everything I can to support not only our men and women in uniform but their families who sacrifice equally for our country.  It is imperative we do everything possible to keep our country safe and I will always work to represent our Armed Forces.

Additionally, our men and women who have sacrificed so much, including their health, defending our nation deserve only the best care when they return home. Meeting veterans’ needs is a priority of mine and I continue to work to ensure that the scandals of the past are not repeated in the future at the expense of our veterans. Our VA hospitals in Topeka and Leavenworth provide valuable care and I will continue to support and help those hospitals get the resources they need to care for veterans in Eastern Kansas.

As a member of the House Military Veterans Caucus, I will work to ensure that we never forget or take for granted the sacrifices veterans and their families made in the past and may be asked to make in the future to defend our nation. We owe them our lives as they worked to defend our freedoms throughout all types of conflicts at home and abroad. I am proud to know that Veterans deservedly have Eastern Kansans’ unwavering support for those sacrifices.
