Congresswoman Jenkins Applauds Passage Of Long-Term Highway Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, the House of Representatives passed the long-term Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015 in an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 359-65. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement after the vote:

“At a time when our economy continues to struggle, this legislation is the first step in providing the necessary certainty folks need to plan for the future. This long-term transportation bill, the first since 2005, includes increased funds for infrastructure construction, including local highways and bridges. Now, states will have the flexibility they need to address improvements to roads, highways and bridges to ensure the safety of all drivers and strengthen our local economy. Additionally, this bill reverses recent cuts to crop insurance which is a vital tool for our Kansas farmers. While there is much more work to be done, this is a strong start to putting control of our highways and bridges back in the hands of the States.”

Items To Note:

This legislation also sets aside funds specifically targeted to help improve local and rural infrastructure. These funds potentially could aid the construction efforts across Kansas, like the Willard Bridge.
