Congresswoman Jenkins' Statement on Debt Limit Vote
September 8, 2017Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement after opposing legislation to raise the debt limit beyond the current $20 trillion level:
“Disaster relief funding should not have been linked to a short term funding fix and a debt limit increase. Earlier this week, I supported a funding bill to help Texans rebuild and recover, but I was elected by Kansans to help get our national debt under control and this bill only makes the problem worse. Make no mistake, I stand with Texas but I believe this could have been handled differently – one vote on disaster relief and a separate vote on the continuing resolution and debt limit increase that included spending reforms. The people of Eastern Kansas elected me to Congress to help lower our national debt, not to keep Washington’s spending on auto-pilot.“
