House Committee Passes Earhart Post Office Naming

Washington, D.C. – The House Oversight and Government Reform committee has marked up and passed out unanimously Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins’ (R-KS) Amelia Earhart Post Office legislation, which would rename her hometown post office in Atchison, Kansas, in her honor.

“It seems fitting that on the heels of Kansas’ celebration of 157 years of statehood, we recognize renowned aviator and Kansan, Amelia Earhart,” said Congresswoman Jenkins. “I am pleased the committee has worked quickly to acknowledge the important role Amelia Earhart has had not just in her home state of Kansas but the world. Earhart’s can-do boundary-busting attitude exhibits the best of what it means to be a Kansan. Her spirit has inspired me and generations of little girls, and it is my pleasure to take this small act to keep her legacy aloft.”

The House of Representatives will now work the bill and move the legislation to the Senate for consideration.
