Taxes, Jobs & The Economy

Congresswoman Jenkins in a Ways and Means Committee Hearing
Everyone can agree that our tax code is broken. It is too complex, too costly, and takes too much time to comply, frustrating individuals, families and businesses trying plan their future with reasonable certainty. The tax code has changed so often—15,000 times since the last major tax overhaul—it is impossible to keep up with and confusing for families and small businesses alike.
We need a fairer, flatter code that helps build an opportunity economy for the American people. As folks continue to struggle in this sluggish economy, reforming the tax code and tackling the U.S. debt, a figure that is now nearing $20 trillion, must be one of our priorities. I have consistently joined my House colleagues in voting for a budget that reduces the deficit and balances within the budget window. Now, with a Republican President and Senate and House majorities, we can cut wasteful government spending and get Washington out of hard-working Americans way so that the American people can go out and do what they do best – succeed.
